Companion Lessons MTC Week 2 10/30/13

Hey mis Padres!

I'm great! It's true what they said about the first week at the MTC. It's stressful, because I'm a tad bit impatient with the language. . . haha. But I feel like my companion and I are totally on the same page with one another.  Initially, we both wanted to teach our investigators something different, and so we had to figure that out. The work goes much smoother when you think alike and have the same goals.  I find that sometimes, I just need to be less sensitive.   We're just goofy companions compared to our perfectionist trio companions. They STUDY ALL THE TIME! Sister Adams, and Sister Holmes, study SO much, and stress each other out and then, Sister Lam especially with figuring out the language.  I know I'm a perfectionist at times, but I like to chill out though and have fun. It's like the Woodbury Family motto; Work hard to play hard, right?

We received another Elder, Elder Sukhan, but he's being fast tracked to Thailand as he already knows the language. He's only with us for a few weeks though since he's just waiting for his visa to come. I don't know how their new companionship is going, since Elder Arne is used to being a solo companion, and I guess misses the attention haha.

As for a run down of our district--- Sister Holmes is my age, as well as Sister Embley. Holmes is from Sandy Utah, and likes to do everything. She has a boyfriend serving in Mexico as a missionary. And often expresses how she misses him. (Sister Embley and I laugh at this though, because it's just so... girly.... haha I guess this is just something we have in common; chill tomboys---- with a touch of a girly side). She's funny, because she freaks out kind of over... everything haha. We love her for it though! Sister Adams I think is 23 and lives in Utah. She kind of reminds me of Aunt Julie for some odd reason. She was called to Thailand earlier, but she deferred it at first since she was engaged to a guy named Dan. I know Dan though because he was my TA at BYU Provo summer term, and I remember him talking about his "complicated relationship" and how he wasn't a fan of Thailand. They broke it off because Dan felt he was depriving her from her mission experience and didn't want to miss out on the best time of her life because of him. So she decided to go. Weird thing is that Dan works at the MTC too and sometimes visits Sister Adams... *awkward!!!!* Sister Lam just turned 22  and has almost graduated from BYU provo. She only has THREE CREDITS LEFT! Some are curious as to why she didn't just wait... However, she is hilarious as to how sassy she is. Sister Embley is from my ward/church back in Ohio. She likes sports like me and I'm just a couple weeks older than her. She also is pretty chill and most of our conversations typically weave in movies quotes from Lilo and Stitch and other Disney/ kids movies.

I've felt that I've been growing in the MTC slowly, but surely. I've really come to realize how important it is to have a listening ear and be able to love others despite their flaws and my frustrations at times with them. I've realized that I've come to understand the investigator isn't the only person that needs to come unto Christ, but myself as well. I find joy in reading the scriptures, as I'm praying before my scripture study as to how to be a more effective missionary. I also love to think of analogies in our everyday life that applies to the gospel. For example, we're supposed to help our investigator come unto Christ by telling them simple doctrine and help them understand and gain their own experience and testimony. It's like teaching an infant how to walk. I can't make them walk, but I have to be patient and hold their hand as they begin to take their first steps and learn to walk and eventually run. However, my companion and I are only holding one of their hands, while the Savior is holding their other hand as the infant begins to learn how to walk. You guys were right though in the fact that the devotionals and choir are awesome! Thanks for the advice

How's the move going? I'm sorry but I laughed at the story of how dad got clipped. Can't help but think of our typical family.... hahaha. How's life? Has it improved since the move? How's work? Thanks for the tid bits madre. I love hearing from you guys!

Thanks for being awesome! Also what's this I hear about dad growing a beard? I wanna see! Please!!! Also can you send me those pics PLEASEEEEE :)

Dad.... it's true about the food basically being cannon center food though. Seriously, I wish I could make my own healthy meals and not think I'm gaining 20 pounds! Also our zone is awesome and hilariously fun. Sometimes there's some drama going on between companionships, but it's to be expected right? I also appreciate your thoughts about conference.

I miss you guys, and wish you were here with me!

Love,
Sister Woodbury

Sawadeekhaa MTC week 1 (10/23/13)

October 23rd

Hey everyone!

Thanks to everyone that wrote! It's so great to hear from you! I receive emails only on Wednesdays, but I can receive handwritten letters pretty much whenever, except sundays, or you can email me through Dearelder.com.

Sister Brynne Woodbury Unit: 52   Mission Code: THAI-BAN  Estimated Departure Date:  DEC18

Now I know that most of you have asked who my companion is, and it's *drum roll* . . .  Sister Embley! For those who don't know, every missionary is assigned to a companion that you basically have to be with 24/7 unless you're transferred to a different area in the mission field, or when you go on missionary splits. She's like a mother that is so loving towards her children (or in this case towards missionaries in our district). We get along well.

Now my district is made up of six people, including me. Now that's TINY! There's only five sisters and one elder. My district is cool, and it's fun to see each others personality within such a small group.

Anyways the MTC is pretty nice but overwhelming in the first week. The language is hard, but it'll eventually come! Man, some days it seems impossible, but I guess this is where faith applies, right? I've realized that I need to rely more on others, especially my Savior. I just have this mentality to do everything by myself, and wanting to prove to others of what I'm capable of. But that shouldn't be the point of why I'm serving a mission. My purpose is to bring others to Christ. I've also realized that I have SOOOOOO much to learn. I really need to rely on the Holy Ghost to help me teach lessons with the investigators. I wish I could just shake them and tell them why they need the gospel, but I don't know how. YET! I'm also re-reading the Book of Mormon, and it's amazing! I look forward to reading it, and am amazed by Nephi and his unwavering, inspiring faith. I need some more of that in my life.

I love choir and the devotionals here! They're awesome and provide much stress-relief to the busy schedule! I'm so tired!!!! Also the food here... it's literally like the Cannon food center at BYU provo. GROSS!!!!

What's been going on in your busy lives? Anything crazy happen? How's work Shane, Lauren and Anita? Any more spit balls? ;) haha

I seriously do love hearing from each and everyone of you, and wish I could tell you everything, but time's limited! I love all of you, and seriously do look forward to your letters! (hint, hint!)

Love,
Sister Woodbury

Mission Farewell: Now is the Start

"And at last I see the lights, and it's like the stars have lifted..." Yep, you guessed it. Sister Woodbury had her farewell, and just like in Tangled set off Chinese lanterns as a "New start" with Sister Embley.

The Mission Call

Hey everyone! Now in order to start this off right, I thought I'd make a little video of where it all began. I put my mission papers in on May 6th and didn't hear back till May 24th, when I finally received my mission call.
